“Rabis Iwasan! Kapag Nakagat, Magpabakuna”
This month, the Department of Health will observe the National Rabies Awareness Month, to reinforce rabies awareness and responsible pet ownership in the country. Rabies is considered a neglected disease that is 100% fatal but 100% preventable. In the Philippines, although rabies is not among the leading causes of morbidity and mortality, rabies is considered a significant public health problem for two reasons; it is one of the most acutely fatal infection and responsible for the death of 200-250 Filipinos annually. Effective and safe vaccines to prevent the disease in humans and animals have been available for decades.
