Dr. Joselito R. Chavez, Deputy Executive Director, and Dr. Rose Marie Rosete Liquete, Executive Director IV of the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI), 2019 and 2021 Presidential Lingkod Bayan (PLB) awardees, respectively, have been featured in the Philippine Civil Service Commission online segments entitled “Honor Awards Program (HAP) Story” and “Lingkod Bayan Diaries (LBD)”. The online segments present the anthology of civil servants’ stories that aim to inspire other kawani through short videos and interviews of public service exemplars.
Dr. Chavez was recognized in the annual Search for Outstanding Government Workers for providing patients afflicted with leptospirosis who developed pulmonary complications with a second lease on life by championing the use of the Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) method. Dr. Chavez lobbied for its procurement and attended training abroad at his own expense to efficiently assemble, operate, and maintain said device and ensure return on investment.
Dr. Liquete was recognized for helping patients with end-stage organ failure regain quality of life through transplantation. She is also the first Filipino woman transplant surgeon in the country who pushed for the creation of satellite kidney centers in government and private hospitals and worked for the inclusion of transplantation and dialysis services in the country’s health insurance package to make renal care more affordable.
