The Department of Surgery of the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital has been in existence since 1954, when the Administration of the Negros Occidental Provincial Hospital departmentalized its services. Since then, the department has provided quality surgical care to the patients from the province of Negros Occidental.

Since the early 1960’s the department has maintained accreditation as a training program in surgery by the Philippine College of Surgeons, and the Philippine Society of General Surgeons. The Department is particularly proud of the fact that since 2003, a majority of its graduates have passed the Philippine Board of Surgery Diplomate Examinations, a testament to excellent training, dedication of the training staff and the quality of surgical education.

By 2016, the Department of Surgery, CLMMRH shall be the premier surgical center in the region that is able to:

A. Provide service and care of the highest quality to the community we serve.

B. Create an atmosphere of academic learning to inspire innovative research in the field of surgery and promote and support continuing surgical education.

C. Have a complement of highly qualified and dedicated GS and Subspecialty consultants who are able to cooperate and collaborate with each other to provide excellent supervision in the training of competent, compassionate and ethical residents.

The Department of Surgery of Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital trains and develops competent, ethical, and compassionate surgeons and provides the highest standard of surgical care to all patients in Region VI by implementing avenues for advancement in healthcare, research and surgical training.
